Halloween Decor Part I
We’re gearing up for Halloween. I’m going to share a few of our ideas every couple of days until Halloween. Mostly, these are our ideas for our Halloween night party, not just everyday decor.
So, here’s our first dillema. How to light the party. We will be roasting weenies and marshmallows for dinner on Halloween.. cause saying Halloweenie is just irresistable. But, apart from that, how do we light our spooky “Witch’s Wood” haunting beneath the trees of our front yard?
Candles, of course. No Witch’s Wood would be complete without candles. We’re going to float different sized candles in glass jars filled with Praying Mantis Ooze, Dragon’s Blood and other spooky substances used for making potions.
We bought 5″ emergency candles. We screwed in a screw to the bottom of the candle, to weigh down the bottom and make it float upright. You may have to experiment with the type and length of screw until you find the right weight. Fill the jar with water and carefully lower the candle into the water by holding it’s wick. Put a couple drops of food coloring and light the candle with a candle lighter or a match.
Having various sizes, is cool, I think. And, if you choose tea lights, you don’t have to do anything special to them. They already will float on the substance.
Make Dragon’s Blood
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 1/2 teaspoons powdered cocoa 0.5 quart light corn syrup non-sudsing soap 0.5 ounce red food coloring 7.5 dropss blue food coloring 2 tablespoons rubbing alcoholMix PB, & cocoa & add light corn syrup just until it is runny. Mix well. Add soap and food coloring, mix. Add the rest of the corn syrup & the rubbing alcohol. Pour mixture in a jar and shake well.
Other ideas for the Candle Jars:
Put green food coloring in the water and place little play insects or lizards in the bottom.
Don’t fill jar with water. but instead, get some tissue paper and poke holes in it. Use Mod Podge to glue tissue paper to jar. Put candle in jar to light.
Place the candle jars around your front porch, or spooky areas
